One of my favorite places in Lowell - the Pollard Memorial Library. There has been a lot of talk about closing libraries in Massachusetts because of the budges and because they are seen as irrelevant in these modern, wired times - I heartily disagree.
The library here in Lowell is always busy, with patrons checking out books, movies and music (many in languages other than English), using the public computers, taking classes, attending cultural and civic events, doing research, learning new skills, participating in programs for children and seniors, picking up museum passes, and doing so many other things that I can't think of right now. The librarians are polite, friendly, accessible, and helpful; always willing to help a patron find whatever it is they need.
In short, libraries rule. Lowell_Mariannika on Flickr: Posted a Photo
I have to admit that a picture of a bunch of men standing on steps in a municipal building is not something I'd usually post, but today the men standing on those steps were taking a pledge to halt domestic violence and other forms of violence against women as a part of White Ribbon Day. That's something I support 100%. Lost And Found Photos on Flickr: Posted a Photo
